A Dog Named Missy

We had this little dog named Missy. She was a tiny little dog. I think she was part Pom and part Chihuahua. She was dumped off on the road by our house. Lori and I picked her up and brought her in the house. I never saw such a sorry looking little mess in my life. She had no hair-- completely bald but for her ears some hair, and eaten up with mange she looked like a miscarriage. We called her Missy for "misfit". We took her to a vet and got meds for her. She got little bigger but not much but her hair grew out beautiful golden blond. That little dog had the most wonderful personality you ever saw.

We had a resort at the time and every one who stayed there loved that little dog. We also had a German Shepard name Fritz. Fritz was a big dog. He adopted Missy she would get on him and just woller him and chew on him and he loved it. Any where Fritz went she went. They would both jump up in the pickup truck and any time it went they went, all the neighbors knew them. We had this trout farm; a mile and half trout stream; people would come and fish for a week at a time. I would miss them at time to feed and give them meds and next day people would tell me they that they had them in their motel room all night.

We had an old Doctor that came often because he loved to trout fish. He grew quite attached to Missy and she would swim out to where he was fishing in waders. He would pick her up and hold her till she rested enough. He put her back in the water to swim back to the bank. One day we were up at the restaurant watching the fishermen and we heard this awful cussing and shouting, we looked and saw old Doc chasing Missy down the road along side the stream. She had something we could not make out. Later on Doc come up for dinner-- he usually brought a trout in for us to clean and cook for his dinner. I said "didn't you catch any thing today?" That old man said "that damn dog stole my stringer of fish and ate them all". I said "I didn't know she ate fish!" He said "well she does now!" I thought it would be the end of that friendship, but I was down at stream next day and there was Missy swimming out to the old doc. and he reached down to pick her up. And when I ask if he trusted her not to eat his fish, he said " No, but I learned not to hang the stringer on the edge of the water, I will be tying it to my belt from now on!" LOL!

First Kiss
As a teenager, I loved walking home from high school breathing in the crisp autumn air. An aroma of burning leaves gave a hint of a warm fire in the fireplace. I enjoyed the fall season with it's cool breezes, refreshing after the long hot summer and the excitement of the coming holidays. One special day stays in my memory, and is revived every year when the leaves begin to turn colors.

This was a beautiful Indian summer day, when we first met. One look into each other's eyes and we knew that this was meant to be. Like magic we were drawn together as he reached out touching my cold hand with his warm presence. Coaxing me to follow, it didn't take much to encourage me to trail along beside.I stumbled trying to keep up, but being a gentle sort, he waited for me to gain my balance, and off we went through the park, shuffling among the dry brown and gold leaves that crunched under our feet.

Both of us were shy and didn't have much to say, but we did finally come to a park bench, where we sat down to rest a while. It was on that park bench that we experienced our very first kiss. Then off we ran racing along side by side, our cold breath puffing out and mingling with the chilly autumn air. The silence between us only added to the sweet feeling I had.Soon we arrived at my house, went inside and snuggled up by the fireside, warm embers sparking upwards thru the chimney.

How bold of me, we had only just met, but this closeness felt so right. As we gazed into the smoldering fire I felt like we had known each other all our lives. We didn't talk much, although that kiss still lingered on my mind. Was this the start of a long romance ? Only time would tell.

Quietly, we were lost in thought when there was a knock at the door. I rose to my feet, crossed the living room floor and opened the door. A nice looking man stood there, a young boy clinging to his hand, and introduced himself as a neighbor from a few blocks away. "This is Cody, my son. We've been searching days for his puppy and someone told us they had seen you walking with a Golden Retriever running ahead of you. They told us this address and Cody begged me to check it out." By that time my frisky new friend had seen Cody, and was bouncing all over, happy to have found his chum. "When we moved to town Bear became frightened by his unfamiliar surroundings and ran off. We've been looking since then and thought we were never going to see him again." Please lady," Cody whispered, "can we have him back?" Seeing tears in the boy's blue eyes, I hadn't the heart to disappoint him. Reluctantly, I let them leave with Bear, Cody saying, "You can come visit him anytime, Miss. Thank you so much."

Afterward, I sat alone staring into the fire, already missing my new friend. It wasn't the same, but I knew that the puppy was in safe hands and had a good home. The saddest part of my story is--who would have thought, that that first kiss would also be our last.

Evil Kitty

One day at my work, a lady said she had a baby kitten that needed a home. She said the mother was wild and had 3 babies but only the 1 survived. I decided to adopt this kitty, which I believe was only about 5 weeks old. She brought the kitty to work for me to pick up. It was in a little carrier. She had said the kitty was a little wild too. Little did I know that this kitty was a monster. I tried to take the kitten, a tiny, solid black, long haired vixen out of the carrier but she hissed and spit and tried to bite.

I took her home, hoping to tame her. No dice. She never would get over being scared of being touched. She also began beating up my little teacup poodle and pooping in the sinks! I finally booted her out to become an outdoor kitty when she was old enough. This cat is one of the craziest but most intelligent cats I have ever seen.

She will approach people as if she wants to be petted, even rubbing their legs, but as soon as you pet her she bites. I have seen her with the outdoor dogs we have, approaching them and rubbing herself against their legs too. But she doesn't attack them. In fact our younger pup drags her around by the neck and she just lets it.

One afternoon I noticed the kitty--"Evil" as I call her, playing in the grass--as I watched, I realized she was biting and attacking her own legs. She rolled and rolled doing that. She also had a bad habit of playing "chicken" in the driveway with cars. She would just stubbornly lie there waiting to see if you would go around her. One day my husband was backing up his jeep and she apparently was playing chicken and he didn't know it. He ended up backing over that stubborn cat but she only squalled and ran off into the shed. She stayed in there, mad, for about a week. The only ill effects she had from that run-in is that now when she runs, her tail snaps up and down really funny.

This kitty got pregnant by a local stray and the really weird thing was, that when she had the babies, she got real tame. I could pet her, play with the babies and she was like a different cat. But as soon as the last baby was old enough to give away, she went wild again. Maybe she needs hormones prescribed.

The best story about her, though, was about my husband and the rabbit. We decided to keep 2 of her kittens for house pets. We brought them inside to live and I guess she knew they were in the house. So, like most momma kitties, she wanted to teach them to hunt. At that time, we had been doing construction on our house, and one wall was enclosed in clear plastic that was stapled down. We came home one evening to find that she had caught a rabbit and broke through the plastic to get in with it. (she was trying to show it to the babies I guess). We found the carcass and threw it and Evil Kitty back out. As my husband was up on the ladder stapling the plastic back down where she broke in, she got that rabbit, climbed up a ladder that was outside against the house, and pressed her face holding the rabbit against the clear plastic and was trying to push her way back inside. My husband was hollering about her being so evil and stubborn and trying to keep her out. What a hoot! Then when he finally managed to get her away and was just finishing up stapling all the plastic back down, he came down the ladder inside, turned around and THERE SHE WAS---behind him on the staircase in the house----with a dead rabbit in her mouth. He said it was like twighlight zone, because he could not figure out how she got in so fast and didn't know where she got in!

She is undoubtedly one of the weirdest pets we have ever had. I think she probably has many more than 9 lives unfortunately.

The Angels Of  Mons

The "Angels of Mons" was a legend handed down over the years by soldiers of World War 1. I first heard it from my father and there was once a book written about it. Whether it was true or not that wounded soldiers saw Angels, who can say, but truth can often be stranger than fiction and I would never dismiss a vision of Angels as being a figment of imagination, especially since I heard this story from a very old gentleman.

He was a young soldier of nineteen, fighting for his country in the mud and gore of that God-forsaken land. He was shot and badly wounded and his comrades gave him up for dead. He lay there in the mud with shells bursting around him, unable to move, and as the tears ran down his face, he thought of his mother and prayed.

Above the heat of battle he heard a strange sound up above. It sounded like rustling wings, but he knew no birds would ever fly. He opened up his weary eyes and there stood an Angel, robed in white, with a face of such beauty and compassion, he was sure he was dead. She gathered him into her arms and folded her wings around him, and he must have slept because when he awoke he was lying in a comfortable bed and realized that he was in a hospital.

A doctor leaned over his bed and said "How are you my boy, and what brought you here". The only answer he could give was, "An Angel, sir" he said. The doctor smiled and said "Strange things have happened in this war but who are we to question them, but I will tell you my lad, its true, because I saw an Angel too".

Rosie's Surprise

There she went nose pointed to the ground.
Scurrying on, looking up and around.
Head back down, she has the scent now.
Out past the barn she sniffed at the old sow.
On she goes back on the scent of what?
Only she knows or thinks she does silly mutt .
Still sniffing in the grass. She's on the trail again.
That dog's not going to give up-its keeps her entertained.
Scratching at the leaves it has been there she knows.
Around that barn and back to the house she goes.
Now her tail standing tall-dog is getting excited.
She starts to dig; has her prey been sighted?
She digs a bit and stops to sniff then I hear a yelp.
Dog does a flip lands on her back sounds like a cry for help.
Poor dog gets stung by a bee or perhaps fire ant.
And the skin on her nose and her mouth are scant.
Did she learn that day? I know there were tears in her eyes.
But for a while she may not want another such surprise.

WHAT IF?
What if somewhere some time a child was born?
What if this child was a boy child, half white and half black?
What if, in 30 or 40 years, time would be right perhaps for
the election of a black President.
What if even better a part white, part black were to present
himeself to the American people as a very charming, knowlegeable
young man? Trained in the ways of the American people.
What if he had many of the traits the American people woudl like
to see in a leader?
What if these associates saw to it this man had all the money
he would need to buy his way into the senate, the congress?
What if this man looked nice and had a nice looking family,
Children would help, too. With the coaching and training
this man had.
What if people felt he was the Messiah, this charming man?
Who promised the people all the things that was wrong with
this country and he would fix it. Ah yes America had a rough
8 years and thought they wanted the change this man
promised to the people.
What if once in office he did make changes in the White House,
changes in the senate? Try to change the constitution. Changes
in the life of every American.
What if these were not the changes the people wanted? Is this man
so powerful that he alone can change the constitution, change
the laws?
What if he could take control of some of the largest businesses
and automobile companies and conduct them out of the
government's office?
What if this man could cause the collapse of our businesses, insurances
and banks?
What if American people were soon to lose these businesses?
Were no longer in charge and the government owned it all?
What if maybe 30 years ago, someone started to train this
young boy on how to charm the American people, the wants
and desires and the ways to win them over with speech and whims?
What if this child were in Chicago? Later in life, learning to
run with the "in" crowd of radicals and thugs but moving into
Chicago and maybe he has been introduced to all the crooked
politicians that have ruled Illinois since the 1920's and gangster days?
What if this group of left wing, that were controlled by a group of
wealthy people, wanted to destroy the United States?
Had finally found the right man to change us from a free country
to one controlled by power hungry radicals? Or wose still,
another country?
What if this boy had becomes man to be in the right place at the
right time to gain his power, taught in college by the same
group of people? What if the people saw that he was about
ready to take his place in this scheme that had been playing
out for 30 years?
What if these radicals groomed him in politics until he was
ready to run for senator of a corrupt city and state like Chicago?
What if, as a senator he is now in the right place to infiltrate
into the power places of the United States? The big companies to
promise favors for contributions?

What if this man now is told to run for the President of the
United States? What if all his political friends, his radical friends
and the CEOs of many companies began to back this white black
man, who no one knows much about, but the few people who say
his father died in Kenya is true? Who really knows for sure who his
his father was? Do they know him in many questionable ways?
What if this man was never checked out, for fear of the people
backing him?
What if he becomes President of the United States?
What if he brings all of his corrupt friends into America's White house?
People who are very questionable? People who cheat and
lie to gain more power?
What if that was our White House? Now turns into a den
of iniquity full of people who want to control our country?
Want to change our constitution, change all our laws? What if
this group of people are able to tell us what we can and cannot do?
Or cannot receive medicine unless they approve it? They are not
doctors or God. What if they control all the money America has left?

What if they are allowed to tax the rich as they see fit?
What if soon, they tax the poor people as they deem right?
What if after they have begged and borrowed from other countries?
What if some other country who is responsible for this man's
training for thirty years or more steps in and suddenly we find
ourselves not Americans anymore but Muslims, Chinese or Russian?

WHAT IF??
