lori
Lori

I am Lori, daughter of Dixie. I am having much
fun helping do the newsletter for the website this
year. I have a backround in psychology, so
sometimes I come into the chat room to conduct
a topic chat on psychology related subjects. I
have dabbled in building web pages and learning
about html script this year, which I find fun and
interesting. I also have been maintaining a website
for the church my husband pastors and have recently
been building a website for our new friends
in west central, MO., who have a campground. In
addition to activities on the computer, I like
animals and I enjoy being outdoors. My hobbies
include watching birds, learning their calls, taking
pictures of flowers and nature, and have recently
tried my hand at some poetry of sorts. Learning
to be a pastor's wife has been a challenge for
me but I consider that an important role for me.
My aspirations include an interest in natural
medicines (herbs, nutrition, massage, etc) and
am thinking about trying to get a doctorate
degree in Naturopathy, which is a form of
alternative medicine.

PD

My name is PD. I live in a small
town in Arkansas (Southern USA).
Our only claim to fame are our tall
pine trees and our wonderful tomatoes.
This yummy fruit is shipped all over
the world. Let me invite you to visit
our Pink Tomato Fest next June. I
promise if you come once you WILL
come again.
I taught public school for twenty-seven
years, but after losing my husband to
cancer I felt I needed a change. Was
offered a position at the Univ. as
Supervisor of Student Teachers.
I can still be with students, make my
own schedule, bring home a bigger pay
check and have not one hour of recess duty.
The move has been great. I enjoy what
I do!! I am also working on a PHD which
will probably take me forever to earn,
but it keeps me busy and we all know
that busy is a good thing. Having just
renewed my Driver`s License I`m sending
that photo. Brave, aren`t I? LOL
Again, thank you for being such a friendly
group and welcoming me to

4ever

Born 1943 in small central Connecticut town.

Lived in the area until 21, then moved to
New York City. Lived there for 22 years.
In NYC, developed my photography
skills and had the unique opportunity
of being in a community garden in the
middle of mid-town Manhattan.

Was a member of Marble Collegiate Church for
many years. Marble is the oldest
church in the USA with continual ministry.
The building is very historic and Dr. Norman
Vincent Peale was head pastor there for 50 years.
While at Marble, I volunteered for many of
the social outreach committees and made many
lifelong friends. Have lived in Virginia
for almost 23 years.

Gardening and photography are two
of my passions and Virginia is a great place
to participate in both. Haven't married yet but
still hoping I can do so.

Hi Chatters.
I have been chatting now for about 10 or 11 years!
My goodness - I certainly do have a lot to
say - most of which is Trivia !!
I am a monitor in LBJ - again - and enjoying
it more this time. I seem to know the people
better than I did the first time.
It is a good place to visit and the
chatters are an interesting mixture from
all over.
I have not figured out why I am here yet
and don't suppose I ever will, but both my
parents had the feeling that there was something
special they were meant for. Maybe it was to
plonk me down here.
" Bear " and I have 4 children and 6 grands,
and one very important cat, Bailey !
I finally decided to write a book after being
told by many people that I should.
So far I have the title page, the
" thank you's " , the acknowledgments, and 1 page written.
I freeze when I am on my own.
I think I need another person to bounce
remarks off.
Eventually I may succeed in producing the
Great Canadian Pamphlet
In the meantime I will keep on trying
to figure out why I am here.
Wish me luck !!

Dixie
DixieMo

I am Dixie Mo
I was born in N.W Missouri. My parents
moved to Illinois when I was 4 years old.
I went to school, and was raised in Quincy Ill.
I was married at very young age.
I had 4 children by the time I was 21.
Ten years later Lori was born. Most of
you know Lori for things she does here
on the room. She is very talented and
enjoys helping me.

When I was younger I went to work for
Motorola for ten years. Later I was
divorced. I went to work in the
sales business selling mobile homes. I
bought a mobile home for me and the
children. We lived in them
for a long time. I would sell mine and
get a new one every 4 years. My
home was set up next to my office
so I did not have to leave the children.
I worked out of my home most of time.
The people I worked for were in the automobile
business and were not around much
so I began to run the business for
them. I became quite good at selling.
I did well for me and the children. My
bosses traveled a lot so I continued
to run the business. I also become a
buyer and had to travel to many mobile
home companies to buy homes. I learned
at the time just how they were built and
what was used in building. That helped
me in my sales being able to explain just
how well they were built. Know your
product to sell it.

About that time I took
a Dale Carnegie course and did very
well - I was made GA next year. That is
graduate assistant to help in the next course.
I believe it was well worth doing. I
learned a lot and still apply much
that I learned. In Quincy I was also president
of the American Business Women. I
belonged to Beta Sigma Phi and kept very
active in the business world. I remarried
about that time-- not the best move I ever madeÉ.
Then my husband took a job in the restaurant
business in Branson, Mo. So I left Quincy and
came to the Ozarks of Mo. I was very surprised
to learn the jobs available to women
then were either motel maids or waitresses.
I did both for a while till I got my real-estate
license. I did some motel management in
Branson then did real-estate.
While in real-estate the broker I worked
for bought a trout ranch in Gainesville Mo.
and asked me if my husband and I would
run it for him.

We did for about 4 years. It was a
14 room motel and a mile and a half trout
stream- beautiful place. People came in to
fish for trout from all around. I learned how
to clean them from 7 am till
mid night besides waiting tables
cleaning rooms and keeping up
laundry for the motel. In my spare time I
started a craft shop where I made
every thing I sold.

Not the end of my careers - We
moved to Springfield in 1990. I went to
work a reimbursement secretary for
Burrell Center, a mental health facility
working closely with the department of Mental
Health in Missouri for 10 years. It was
an experience too! I retired from there,
bought a mobile home and set it on my
daughter's 30 acres out side of Springfield.

In 1996 while still working, I got in to
chat, starting in Senior.com. It was
valentine night and I thought there must
be other lonely people. Some were
looking for Senior.com. I went there
and what I saw I loved-- people were
dancing and telling jokes, laughing and
having so much fun I found my self
laughing too. So that was my welcome
to chat and I went back again and again.

I went to many rooms and saw
some not so good. 7 years ago I
decided I wanted to have a room
for people to enjoy. I had looked around..
I knew what I didn't want, and what I
did, so I set out to make it. Some
people said I was too strict. I wasn't,
just what people said. I kind of kept
the bad ones away. I built my room
the way I wanted. There have been
people try to change it. They think they
know better than I -- maybe they do but
let them make their own and work it
AS HARD AS I HAVE. I LOVE MY ROOM
AND ALL THE PEOPLE IN IT. AND I HOPE
TO CONTINUE TO MAKE PEOPLE HAPPY.
THAT IS MY REWARD FOR THIS ROOM--
MAKING SENIORS HAPPY AND A GOOD
PLACE TO COME TO.

Thank you all that have been with me and
every one that comes in.

Lenny

Lenny

I was born in 1941 in the town of Birkenhead in England.
Birkenhead is on Merseyside and just across the
river from the city of Liverpool.
I was an average student but left school at 15 years
of age to go and serve an apprenticeship as a
Boilermaker in the local shipyard.
I worked in that shipyard for around 17 years in total.

In 1964 I met the lady who is now my wife Joan.
We met for the second time around having met
a few years earlier and then went our separate ways.
We married in 1965.
Our first child, our daughter Angela, was born in 1966.
Our second child, our son Keith, was born in 1969.
In 1975 we decided to move to Ontario Canada
and have lived here since that time.

Our kids were 6 and 9 years old when we made
the move. I took to our new country right from
the start but for the first few years my wife Joan
was homesick and would have gone home had
we all agreed. Now she loves the place as much
as I do.

I am the kind of guy who likes to try to stay in shape.
I played racquetball for 26 years until they closed
the last court in this city in 2007.
I am a member of the gym at the local YMCA
and will be there most weeks from Monday to Friday.
I play tennis when the nice weather arrives
(come on the month of May when I can get back
to playing).

I have always liked to sing and a song is never
far from my lips. In the mid 1980's I joined a
barbershop chorus called, The Twin City Harmonisers.
I sang with them for 5 years until my work got in
the way of my practice nights.

I retired from my job in 2002 at the age of 61.
I worked at my trade, man and boy for some
46 years. Upon retiring in 2002 we moved to
the city that we now live in. Sarnia Ontario.
I was pleasantly surprised to find that they
have a barbershop chorus here in the city and
so I have been singing with this chorus for
about 6 years. We are called, The Bluewater
Chordsmen. If you type that in on Google you
can look at the history of our chorus.

We have two lovely grandchildren. They are our
daughter Angela's kids. Rachael was born in
1994 and Devon in 1999.

Thanks for being interested in my bio.

Don"
Don

I am a retired architect. I have my own house. I have also been an art
dealer in my past and have an interesting collection of New Zealand art
that I have acquired over the years. Needless to say I am rather
 passionate about the visual arts.

I am told that I appear much younger in looks and and attitude which
is good for the ego, but it doesn't go to my head. I am also described
as a really nice guy. And I think generally I am. I have a positive
outlook on life and long ago dealt to any baggage I may have had.
So you could say that I am comfortable with myself. I am thoughtful,
honest and open and expect the same from others. I have a generous
nature and I am caring and compassionate and have a real need to care.

Lived in Fiji for 8 years which had a profound effect on my life and values.
I came to value the richness and diversity of other cultures.

I think young. So I can act outrageously at times. But I need my quiet
and more reflective times too. I keep exploring new ideas and new technology.

Music: Jazz, blues, rock principally. A rather eclectic collection.

Food: Will eat just about anything and I love dining out with great company.
I eat healthily but can indulge occasionally!

Drink: Wine is bit of a passion. Love vineyards! Spent a week in Hawkes
Bay over one Easter doing the vineyards.

Travel: More please. Love getting out of Auckland even if it is to Matakana
for the day, Hawkes Basy for Easter or anywhere in the world. Would rather
stay in a backpackers and meet people from all over the world than book
into yet another annonymous hotel. Places I would like to visit are South
America, North Africa, South Africa, Turkey, Greece, Spain, Italy etc. Asia
is not that important.

Exploring: I like discovering new things and having new experiences.

Friends: Enjoy sharing ideas and conversing and joking with friends. Must
have a quick wit, a great sense of humour including a sense of the ridiculous
and black humour when appropriate and not offensive. Humour is what gets
us through the hard times.

Sport: My active participation was working out at the gym 3 days a week
but now it is walking, walking & Tai Chi. Enjoy watching rugby tests on TV

Non Sporting: Reading, movies, watching a couple of good movies on DVDs,
board games, mah jong, talking and expanding my base of friends.

Kids: And yes I do have 4 kids but they are all adults now with their own
families. So I have no dependents. I do hope that anybody I meet will get
on with my kids and vice versa. Kids and you I hope would like each other.
Having said that my girls try me badly but that is not the way I want it.
My family is quite important to me.

Animals: I love cats

Favourite Quotations: "Carpe Diem"and "Nils Carborundum Illigitimi"

Londoner

Londoner

My name is Londoner and this picture was taken in 2009
with my lovely hubby, John. I'm 65 years old.
Although I am originally from London, we now live in a typically
English, little village in Kent, 50 miles south of London, so still only a short drive away.
Hobbies:
The computer is my main hobby, but I also enjoy tracing my
family tree. I've gone back as far as the 1500's on both my
mum's side of the family and my dad's side of the family. It's
time consuming, but been really "interesting", to say the least.
LOL
I enjoy cooking and I also enjoy the old films on t.v. Quite a
varied taste in music, but I love country music and people like
Willie Nelson, George Jones, Dolly Parton, etc. etc. (older
country music stars).
Also enjoy pen pal e mailing and meeting new American e mail
friends. I'm a "people person", so love making new friends.
Also, John and I love to travel, if and when we can afford to.
Not always possible on our pension, but we try to make it as
often as possible. America is our all time favourite
destination! America is an amazing country, besides which, I
just LOVE the American people. Been to a few states and
enjoyed every one of them.....my favourite is Tennessee and
the southern states, but as I said, I've enjoyed ALL the
states we've visited for different reasons.
