A month ago, a bipartisan group of senators asked Obama for his "strong support" for a commission to solve the national debt crisis. "We don't recommend this special process lightly," they wrote, calling it "the best way to reach a lasting bipartisan solution that will put our nation back on a sound long-term fiscal path." Seven Republicans who backed the measure voted against it last Tuesday -- Sen. Mike Crapo, Kay Bailey Hutchison, Jim Inhofe, Robert Bennett, John McCain, Sam Brownback and John Ensign. http://www.drudge.com/news/129596/senat ... n-proposal

What is it with the republicans in Congress? They put forth proposals, but when obama agrees with them, they vote against their own proposals! Sure seems to indicate they are more interested in destroying Obama than in actually legislating. They don't like to be called obstructionists or the party of NO - but what else would describe their behavior?

They’ve painted themselves into a corner with their rhetoric to such a degree that they can’t even support their own ideas when those ideas are presented by the majority party.

Another big flip-flop: McCain - one of those "clear-thinkers" a few years ago speaking of the "don't ask, don't tell" said quite plainly that if the military leaders came to him and told him they believed gays should serve openly in the military, he would reconsider his position. So the military leaders testified that they believe the policy should be removed and what does McCain now say? He is "deeply disappointed" and callied the assessment "clearly biased" He became almost apoplectic and said the leaders should have talked to Congress first.

Hypocrites - but that's hardly a surprise.

Louie’s response to this discussion is consistent with the Republican’s in Congress…a party void of serious thought and ideas with no vision for the future...they can't explain their opposition because it is so illogical. If/when the Republicans ever present a plan for the future, I assure you it will be more of the same-o, same-o, failed Reagan economics and Bush/Cheney brashness. The labeling of the Republicans as the party of no does not just apply to their saying no to Obama; they in fact are a party of no solutions, no ideas and no vision.

Did you see the budget proposal of Paul Ryan: Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security privatized; seniors get a voucher to buy private insurance, and the voucher's growth is far slower than the expected growth of health-care costs. The employer tax exclusion is eliminated, replaced by a tax credit that grows more slowly than medical costs. Privatization is a real death panel, in my opinion

Socialism AKA communism is the *REAL* death panel, in my opinion.

SS has survived 75 years and Medicare has survived 25 years under capitalism, you may be willing to see the tolling of the bells for these programs but not the majority of senior citizens; they do not share your fear of socialism aka communism regarding these programs.

Socialism and communism are the monikers those "clear-thinking" conservatives put on anything that does not reflect their own ideas. Social Security and Medicare were both fought against by Republicans who also branded them as "Socialism" If one wants to call any government run program "socialism" then they must believe that the military is also a socialist idea - not to mention the VA. My guess is that those now retired and dependent on those programs would really hate to see them dismantled and "privatized" Can you imagine the mess folks would be in right now if the programs had been privatized 8 years ago? Can you imagaine if the military was privatized? Or the VA?

P.S. Thanks for the picture of Bush! And you can blame it all on Bush if you like - personally, I think the flip floppers should start thinking about their constituents instead of themselves and their own jobs. Their muddle-headedness does make one wonder if they actually do any thinking for themselves...or is it all just what the "party" orders them to do?
