It is not often and but rare either to have severe winter weather in my part of Virginia. Today, we got socked by ice, snow and sleet. Now that the snow has stopped falling, gale force winds are blowing. My best guess for snow accumulation at my apartment is 6 inches. Because I live on a dead end street which is not heavily trafficed, there will be no slow plowing in this neighborhood. There are plenty of supplies on hand in case we lose power. I do have a shovel and ice chopper I keep on hand for such occasions and will start digging out tomorrow morning.

I went outside this morning to check on snow accumulation. My neighborhood has not been as hard hit as others in the area. The deepest accumulation is about 4 inches. Not terrible by any means but enough for people to stay indoors. A lot of people around here don't know how to drive in snow and I don't remember how to. There is an awsome snow drift in the back of my apartment which is about 2 1/2 feet deep. Took a picture of it. For those who are interested, there are lots of pictures and stories at: wavy.com.
