August
Birthstone: Peridot

Leo (July 23 - August 22)
The Leo personality is well known for
his/her smooth charm. Most Leos have
a persuasive smile that can get them just
about anything they want.
They like to take excellent care of their
physical grooming appearance, and have
an animal magnetism that gets attention
wherever they go.
Leo doesn't rely on his/her charming
personality alone. There is a lot of strength
and creativity in Lion.
Natural leaders, Leos are occasionally
accused of being arrogant or stubborn,
but in fact it is their confidence and
persistence that produce success. Even
when things don't go as planned, Leo's
inborn grace may save the situation
Virgo (August 23 - Sept. 23)
By Mercury being placed in Virgo you
have an unusual ability to reason that is
lacking in other signs. Not that you are
more intelligent but rather that you lean
towards the logical in all you think, and
sometimes this may not be the best thing
as there has to be some of the odd, unusual
things in life that you will have to learn to
accept that does not seem to have any order,
logic, or reason. You do find it easier to think
than to do anything else, better than most other
people for that matter. You must guard against
living in your head and not in the world.
Flower:
Gladiolas, meaning "give me a break",
"I am really sincere", "flower of the
gladiators".

COMPUTER TIP FOR August, by Dude
Static Fix
If mouse or keyboard do not
work or are very slow? This may be
caused by static electricity. Usually
happens in low humidity conditions
especially in carpeted areas. (In
extreme situations the monitor
may not work for same reason)
THE FIX:
1. Turn off computer
2. Unplug mouse or keyboard
3. Rub bare metal at end of cord
against bare metal on back of computer
4. Plug mouse and keyboard back
in – be sure not reversed
5. Hold hand on bare metal on back
of computer while you turn on computer.
This should fix it

FAMOUS QUOTES:
The aim of art is to represent not
the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance. Aristotle
Words are often seen
hunting for an idea,
but ideas are never seen hunting for words. Josh Billings
A classic is a book that has never
finished saying what it has to say. Italo Calvino

EYE ON THE NIGHT SKY IN AUGUST
A solar eclipse opens the month
on the 1st, visible in Russia, Mongolia and China. The August 11th will bring
the year’s best shooting stars to the
western hemisphere, when the famous
Perseid meteor shower will occur.
Watch between the hours of 1:30 am
and dawn of the 12th, when the rate
should be 1 meteor per minute. Mars
and Saturn disappear into the Sun’s
glare this month. In the southern sky,
Jupiter will rise, setting at midnight.
Neptune is visible only by telescope, at opposition on the 15th in Capricornus.
New Moon – August 1st
First Quarter – August 8th
Full Moon – August 16th
Last quarter – August 23rd
New Moon - August 30th

FOOD FACTS Melons – the “goodly fruit”
Melons are often eaten in the
hottest weather due to the fact
that they have a high percentage
of water. They are good for the
kidneys and are used often as
the only food or drink taken
during fasting. They are very
sweet and will furnish calories
so that one can continue to work
while doing a cleansing fast.
Melons are low in calories and
contain many of the necessary
nutrients which make them good
for every day eating as well as
for dieting.
Melons should never be moldy,
mildewed or soft in any way. It
is not advisable to cut away spoiled
parts and eat the rest. Some
suggest thumping the bottom of
the melon, listening for a hollow
sound to determine ripeness. Some
suggest depressing the blossom
end and if it gives, the melon is ripe. Look for uniform color.

HEALTHWATCH Low Blood Sugar
This condition develops when there
is not enough sugar in the blood to give
the muscles and brain cells the energy
they need to work.
